4 LR board seats up for vote as filing for ballot set to start

Candidates for Little Rock Board of Directors positions can start filing petitions to be on the Nov. 8 general election ballot beginning Friday at the city clerk's office.

The filing period will last until noon Aug. 19. Packets of materials needed to file are available at the clerk's office.

This year, voters will elect city directors for all three at-large seats that represent the city as a whole, and for the Ward 4 position. City directors are paid $18,000 a year.

The Ward 4 position is occupied by Brad Cazort, who has held it since 1996.

Ward 4 is an area that borders Wards 3, 5 and 6. The ward extends west from Mississippi Street and south of Cantrell Road to reach past Interstate 430 to Pinnacle Valley Road on the ward's westward end. The ward stretches north from both Markham Street and the eastern portion of Mara Lynn Drive and north and east of Hinson Road to the Arkansas River.

Ward maps are available on the city's website, littlerock.org.

Joan Adcock, the longest-serving Little Rock board member at 24 years, holds Position 10, one of the at-large seats that will be on the ballot.

Dean Kumpuris, a city director for 21 years, holds the Position 8 at-large seat. The remaining at-large spot, Position 9, is held by Gene Fortson, who has been on the board since 2006.

The board has 10 members, plus the mayor. Each seat is for a four-year term.
