An Arkansas sheriff's deputy has been arrested on accusations he assaulted his wife and possessed an illegal drug, authorities said Thursday.

Carroll County Sheriff's Office deputy Jonathan White, 31, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after investigators received "credible information" he had assaulted his wife, Sheriff Randy Mayfield said in a statement.

White was arrested at a home in Berryville, the statement said. He faces charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member, possession of methamphetamine and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, all class D felonies.

Sheriff's Office Major George Frye declined to provide details on the allegations against White, including whether any weapon was used.

"The matter is still under investigation," he said. "We're not going to discuss the specifics of the case at this point."

White had been employed at the sheriff's office since April 2014. Frye said White notified authorities of his intention to resign from his position before his arrest and had subsequently done so.

White was booked into the Benton County jail, where he was being held without bail Thursday morning pending an initial court appearance, the statement said.
