Man commits suicide in Washington County jail

A Madison County man accused of sexual assault killed himself Thursday in the Washington County Detention Center, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Mickey Gene Wolfe Jr., 41, of Wesley, was last seen alive at 1:17 a.m. He was found about an hour later hanging from a noose made from a towel fastened to a bed, according to the news release.

He was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the news release.

Wolfe was alone in the cell, the news release stated.

An internal investigation is underway to find whether policies and procedures were followed, and Wolfe's body was sent to the State Crime Lab, according to the news release.

Wolfe faced five charges of sexual assault in Madison County, according to the news release.
