Two Arkansans killed in wreck after vehicle hits bridge

Two Arkansans died earlier this month when their vehicle struck a bridge in Clay County, authorities said.

Arkansas State Police on Wednesday released a report on the July 16 crash that killed 43-year-old Tracy Tippitt of Piggott and 25-year-old Christopher Smith of Rector.

According to the report, a 2000 Hyundai was traveling east on Clay County Road 534 shortly before 2:30 p.m. when it veered out of control and hit a bridge east of Arkansas 139.

The report said it wasn't clear who was driving. Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

The deaths brought to 293 the number of traffic fatalities so far this year on Arkansas roads, according to preliminary figures.
