UA Olympians attending rally today

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas freshman pole vaulter Lexi Weeks and junior triple jumper Clive Pullen, along with five former Razorbacks, all competing at the Olympics in August in Rio de Janeiro, will be introduced at 5:30 p.m. today during a send-off rally on the Fayetteville Square.

The former Razorbacks at the rally will be Omar McLeod (world leader in the 110-meter hurdles), Sandi Morris (American record-holder in the pole vault), Chrishuna Williams (800 meters), Dominique Scott (10,000) and Taylor Ellis-Watson (1,600 relay).

Morris, Weeks, Williams and Ellis-Watson are U.S. Olympians, McLeod and Pullen will compete for Jamaica and Scott for South Africa.

Former Razorback Olympians also in attendance tonight include Calvin Davis, who won the bronze medal with a third-place finish in the 400 hurdles in 1996 in Atlanta, Reuben Reina, Brandon Rock, Godfrey Siamusiye and Christin Wurth-Thomas.

Prior to the Olympic sendoff, U.S. and German teams competing in the decathlon and heptathlon in the 23rd Thorpe Cup on Friday and Saturday at the UA’s John McDonnell Field, will be introduced.

Admission is free to the Thorpe Cup, which begins at 4:45 p.m. Friday. Fans are encouraged to park in lots 55 and 64.

Former Arkansas All-American Alex Gochenour will compete for the U.S. team in the heptathlon.
