Jonathan Edward White, 31, was arrested in Berryville on preliminary felony charges of aggravated assault, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office.

White lives in Huntsville, which is the Madison County seat. Madison County borders Carroll County to the south. Both counties are in Northwest Arkansas.

White's wife learned earlier this month her husband, a narcotics detective, was using methamphetamine, according to an affidavit she filed Wednesday in Madison County Circuit Court seeking an order of protection.

"I tried to talk with him about it and attempted to help him," she wrote. "I realized that he was much further in than I thought."

She told Carroll County Sheriff Randy Mayfield and another officer about the situation July 22, according to the affidavit.

"When Jon learned what I had done, he was very upset," wrote his wife. "He kept texting me how I cost him the only job he ever loved."

On Wednesday, while driving on Arkansas 21 on her way to work, she met a vehicle driven by White. He turned around and followed her, according to the affidavit. Both pulled over to talk.

"We got into an argument," she wrote. "He yelled at me how he wasn't a cop anymore and took his gun out and pointed it at me."

White accused her of "hiding his kids from him" and threatened to kill her father and uncle if anything happened to his children, according to the affidavit.

According to the arrest report, White has four children. Four children were listed on the protection order, which was granted Wednesday by Madison County Circuit Judge John Threet. It's in effect until Aug. 15.

"I feel it would be best if he keeps his distance from me until this blows over," White's wife wrote in the affidavit. "He has been abusive in the recent past and has pulled a gun on me before. The fact that he would do it on the side of a public highway concerns me, and I am scared of what he may do to me."

White was booked into the Carroll County jail, then transferred Wednesday to the Benton County jail in Bentonville, where he is being held without bail. He is scheduled for a hearing Aug. 15 in Madison County Circuit Court in Huntsville.

Maj. George Frye, a spokesman for the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, said White notified the office of his intentions to resign before the incident took place Wednesday. He said White wasn't asked to resign.

Wednesday's arrest report listed the Sheriff's Office as White's place of employment.
