FAYETTEVILLE -- Police arrested Thursday a man they said dressed as a construction worker and robbed a Fayetteville bank, said Sgt. Craig Stout, police spokesman.

Mark B. Mathews, 48, of 825 Rose Ave. in Fayetteville was arrested in connection with robbery. He hadn't yet been booked into the Washington County Detention Center by deadline Thursday.

Police said Mathews walked into the First State Bank at 2125 E. Joyce Blvd. around 4:28 p.m. Thursday and passed a teller a note demanding money, Stout said. Mathews wore an "obvious disguise," according to a preliminary report. Stout said the disguise included a fake mustache.

Mathews left the bank with "some money," Stout said. The amount hasn't been disclosed and wasn't listed on the preliminary report.

Stout said he didn't think any weapons were displayed during the robbery. No one was injured.

Police found Mathews shortly after the robbery near Mud Creek Trail and Old Missouri Road, according to a preliminary report. Mathews had the stolen money on him, according to the report.

During an interview, Mathews told police he had used a note demanding money and got money from the bank teller. He also said he wore a disguise "to hide his identity," the report shows.
