OXNARD, Calif. -- Rolando McClain remains on the Dallas roster. The Cowboys are saying little else about the enigmatic linebacker who hasn't reported to training camp in California.

Owner Jerry Jones said Friday on the eve of the first camp practice that he isn't ready to dump McClain despite a 10-game suspension to start the season and his absence most of the offseason.

McClain will be placed on the "did not report" list with defensive end Randy Gregory, who will be suspended at least four games to start the season. Both violated the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Jones said there were too many "nuances" to simply cut McClain, although he and his son, executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones, wouldn't elaborate.

CHIEFS

Berry a no-show

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Chiefs safety Eric Berry was not among the players who reported to training camp at Missouri Western on Friday, a decision largely expected after negotiations on a long-term contract with Kansas City broke down.

Berry was designated the Chiefs' franchise player but has not yet signed his contract, which means he cannot be disciplined for skipping camp. But considering the one-year deal promises to pay him more than $10.8 million, Berry is expected to sign at some point before the season.

The Chiefs and Berry's representatives were never close to reaching a long-term agreement by the July 15 deadline. Those talks must now be shelved until after the season.

SAINTS

Nicks joins camp

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Former New York Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks has joined the New Orleans Saints at training camp.

Nicks, who practiced with New Orleans for the first time on Friday, is taking a spot on the 90-man preseason roster that opened up when the Saints placed Vincent Brown on injured reserve.

The 28-year-old Nicks, who posted 1,000-yard seasons in 2010 and 2011, has been far less productive since and likely will need to demonstrate the promise of a significant resurgence to make the regular season roster.

Last season, he played in only six games with the Giants, catching seven passes for 54 yards and no touchdowns.

Now he'll try to carve out a role on a New Orleans receiver corps led by Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead, Brandon Coleman and rookie Michael Thomas.

TITANS

WR Johnson seals deal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson.

The Titans also added offensive lineman Ronald Patrick on Friday. Terms were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-3 Johnson has 1,053 catches for 14,100 yards and 68 touchdowns. He ranks eighth in NFL history with receptions and ninth in yards receiving, leading active players in those categories.

The third pick overall in 2003 spent his first 12 seasons with the Titans' AFC South rival, the Houston Texans, where he is the franchise's all-time leading receiver. He played last season with Indianapolis, where he caught 41 passes for 503 yards and four touchdowns.

Patrick has been on the practice squad with Dallas, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Buffalo. The Titans waived offensive lineman Sam Carlson, putting the roster at 90 for training camp.

DOLPHINS

DE Jordon reinstated

DAVIE, Fla. -- Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan, the No. 3 overall pick of the 2013 draft who was suspended in April 2015 following multiple violations of the NFL's drug policy, was reinstated by the league on a conditional basis Friday.

Jordan, 26, is eligible to join the team at training camp Saturday. But per the NFL's statement on the matter, he will be limited to "meetings, conditioning work and similar activities."

The NFL statement further said, "Once arrangements have been confirmed regarding Jordan's clinical resources in Miami, he will be permitted to participate in all preseason activities, including practices and games."

Jordan must then meet with the NFL before the start of the regular season to review his progress, and if he meets all requirements he'll be permitted to play in the Sept. 11 season opener at Seattle.

Jordan will be evaluated later in the season to gain full reinstatement, the NFL said in its statement.

First-year Dolphins coach Adam Gase, who learned of Jordan's reinstatement shortly after his team's opening practice of training camp Friday morning, said he's unsure what role Jordan will play when he returns.

"We're still at the beginning stages of this thing," Gase said.
