Where I live: Little Rock's Heights neighborhood

Occupation: retired

My favorite space in my home is: the garden room.

Why? Because I love to watch things grow and bloom (and I want to watch things grow and bloom in a beautiful, functional, rugged space with heat and air conditioning). I enjoy sharing cuttings and receiving them. Right now I'm enjoying the wide variety of sedums (stonecrop) and succulents.

Located right off the living room, this small space is eclectic and in harmony with the rest of the home's design. The floor is concrete, so I just sweep and mop occasionally. The "rug" was painted by my niece as a housewarming gift. The sink and work space make repotting, watering and overwintering plants super easy. And the sink is a galvanized bucket that can take a beating. I suspended a steel pipe from the ceiling for hanging plants, but it's evolved and now has lights and other things that "catch my eye" hanging from it, too. I recently added a couple of hand-me-down cane chairs so I have a comfy spot to relax after a morning of puttering. I started a lot of this year's vegetable garden from seeds sprouted in the garden room. So the garden room has economical and edible value along with beauty, function and durability. How can it not be my favorite room?

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Make it bigger!
