Where I live: Rogers

Occupation: artist

My favorite space is: my guest room/studio.

Why? This space has great natural light and it's at the far end of the house which allows me to physically disconnect from household chores that may be calling my name.

Although I aspire to be an early morning person, I generally don't make it into my studio until 9 a.m. I know I've had a good day when I eat a late lunch. Sometimes, when I'm "stuck" on a particular concept, I find that cleaning and organizing my space gives me the time and space I need. The result is productivity that will undoubtedly "mess up" the space again, but I cherish those few moments when everything is tidy and in its [place].

I've come to realize that I can't paint without a bit of a distraction so the majority of the time I will have an audiobook cued up before getting started. While I have to focus in silence while doing research and initial sketches, once the paint starts going down I'm able to listen to my latest favorite book. Getting lost in a story while doing my favorite thing? Heaven.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Take out the guest bed and use the space to store art, art supplies and books. However, my guests say that art supplies wouldn't be as comfortable to sleep on.
