FROLIC BEFORE FOLLES

Argenta theater guests slip on boas for La Cage

Colorful feather boas were de rigueur at a July 20 fundraiser for the Argenta Arts Foundation. The whimsical event was a preview party for the Tony Award-winning musical La Cage aux Folles at the Argenta Community Theater.

Partygoers walked a Hollywood-style red carpet and were given feather boas as they arrived. They mingled for an hour before the musical's debut, enjoying a buffet of heavy hors d'oeuvres and having photos made with a life-size cutout of Zaza, a lead character in La Cage. The drink of the evening was the Cosmopolitan, served with "drink buddies" -- plastic bathing-suit clad male drink-markers that clung to rims of glasses.

This is the fifth year for Argenta Community Theater which, in addition to presenting stage productions such as La Cage aux Folles, provides the educational children's summer camp ACTing Up and collaborates with other arts organizations and nonprofits.

The Argenta Arts Foundation is a nonprofit organization with a mission to produce art events, support other art endeavors and advocate for art, education and development in the Argenta Arts District.
