Haphazardly Ever After

Nature Center Exploration
POWHATAN — Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25, will present Nature Center Exploration from 1-3 p.m. at the Nature Center. Participants are invited to self-explore the Nature Center and learn about some of the unique wildlife in the area. The park interpreter will answer questions and give impromptu programs. Lake Cruise
POWHATAN — Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25, will have a Lake Cruise from 4-5 p.m., weather permitting. Participants will head out on the lake with the park interpreter to learn of the history and creation of the lake and discuss various wildlife in and around the lake. Attendees are encouraged to bring water and sunscreen/sun protection. Preregister at the Visitor’s Center, and meet at the Snapp Pier. The cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for youth ages 6 to 17. Creature Feature
POWHATAN — Lake Charles State Park, 3705 Arkansas 25, will present Creature Feature from 3-3:45 p.m. at the Nature Center. Join the park interpreter in taking an in-depth look at one of the resident park animals. Learn about a unique animal, using living animals, skins and furs, bones and skulls, and/or other mediums to better understand the creatures in the area. U.S. Pizza Cornhole Classic Tournament
BATESVILLE — U.S. Pizza, 60 Batesville Blvd., will present the U.S. Pizza Cornhole Classic Tournament at 8 p.m., with registration at 7 p.m. The fee to play is $20 per team. Vacation Bible School

Astronomy in the Ozarks
FAIRFIELD BAY — The Fairfield Bay Community Education Center will offer a Sterling Scholars presentation, Astronomy in the Ozarks, with Debra Burris, from 1:15 - 2:15 p.m. This event will explore kitchen astronomy — no special tools required. Attendees will learn how to navigate the night sky without needing a telescope and how to identify seasonal patterns from their vantage point in the Ozarks throughout the year. Burris is an associate professor of physics at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. There is no admission fee, but a $10 donation is suggested. Church Planters Missions Conference

Book Arts and Printmaking
MOUNTAIN VIEW — The Arkansas Craft School will offer Book Arts and Printmaking with Mountain View artist Linda Rawlings. This hands-on workshop combines several related crafts culminating in the production of two handmade books. The three-day class costs $225, plus a $35 materials fee. Four-Person Scramble
BATESVILLE — The Course at Eagle Mountain Four-Person Scramble, sponsored by Citizens Bank, will take place Saturday and Aug. 7. The entry fee is $560 per team. On Saturday, there will be a shotgun start at 11 a.m., a horse race and live bidding at 6 p.m., and dinner at 6:30 p.m. On Aug. 7, the shotgun start will be at 11 a.m., and prizes will be awarded after play. Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches Barn-Raising Campaign
BATESVILLE — One aspect that makes the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches’ program unique in Arkansas is the fact that involves a real working ranch. The boys and girls who call the ranches’ campus in Batesville home are helping raise a registered Hereford beef herd. The ranches’ cattle program has an urgent need for a new hay barn. Ozarka College-Ash Flat EMT Program
ASH FLAT — Ozarka College in Ash Flat will begin offering courses for its Emergency Medical Technician Program in the fall semester. Classes will meet from 5-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Aug. 16. Additional clinical hours will be required. The instructor will be Andy Schisler, longtime employee and paramedic for Spring River Ambulance of Cherokee Village. Cabot Lions Club Meetings
CABOT — The Cabot Lions Club has regular get-togethers at noon the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Kingpin Sports Grill. Lions serve local communities and protect the planet. Club members provide children with eyeglasses, offer food for seniors and are among the first to respond when disaster strikes. All are invited to attend the meetings.

Beebe Community Health Fair
BEEBE — The third annual Beebe Community Health Fair will take place from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 9 in the Owen Center (Gym) at Arkansas State University-Beebe. The event is open to Beebe-area communities. Health screenings and medical services will be provided, along with vendor giveaways, drawings and demonstrations. School supplies will be distributed to students of area school districts. The White County Health Unit will have a booth to register students and community residents for vaccines. The unit, at 306 N. Cheeseburger in Paradise Fundraiser
FAIRFIELD BAY — The Fairfield Bay Community Education Center’s annual benefit dance, Cheeseburger in Paradise, will take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Fairfield Bay Conference Center. Tickets are $20 in advance at the Education Center or the Conference Center, or from committee members, or $25 at the door; 50/50 raffle tickets are $5 each. Suggested attire is Hawaiian-print shirts and flip-flops. There will be live music by Lucky Draw, a silent auction, games and beach food, including cupcakes. Beginner’s Crochet Workshop

HEBER SPRINGS — The Rotary Club of Heber Springs will host its annual Scholarship Four-Person-Scramble Golf Tournament on Sept. 9 at the Red Apple Inn and Country Club. Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by play at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. There will be prizes for closest to the hole on all par 3s. Funds raised will provide scholarships to 2017 graduating seniors. The Rotary Club provided $17,000 to last year’s graduates and has committed to give $14,000 this year.
