UPDATE: Fayetteville man said he shot wife by accident, police say

A Fayetteville man called 911 Tuesday morning and requested an ambulance, then later told police he had shot his wife by accident, according to a preliminary report from the Fayetteville Police Department.

David Warford, 47, of 2209 E. Manor Drive, was arrested in connection with domestic battery. He was not listed in the Washington County jail as of 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Warford's wife, who was not identified in the report. She was shot in the abdomen and taken to a hospital, but further details of her condition were not provided.

Warford told investigators that he had been contemplating suicide and he and his wife had been arguing over the weekend, according to the report.
