Police: Bentonville man posted photo with gun, 'school shooting time' caption

BENTONVILLE — A Bentonville man was arrested last week after posting a photograph of himself holding a pistol with the caption “school shooting time,” according to court documents filed Tuesday.

Tyler Chance Stewart, 18, was released from the Benton County Jail on a $7,500 bond.

He was arrested June 2 in connection with terroristic threatening in the first degree, a Class D felony. Police made contact with Stewart by telephone and asked about the photograph, according to court documents.

Stewart said it was a joke and he plays around with the people he plays video games with. He said he did not have any intention of hurting anyone, according to the affidavit.

According to court documents, Stewart told police the photograph was of him holding a BB gun.

Stewart told police that he had purchased a BB gun for protection and did not have any other weapons. Stewart later allowed police to search his home, and police seized the BB gun, according to the affidavit.

The photograph was posted the morning of June 2 on a private game chat server.

Stewart said he sent the image as a joke, according to the affidavit.

Stewart was also arrested Oct. 7, 2013 after threatening to conduct a school shooting and bomb a high school, according to court documents.

Stewart was ordered not to come within 100 yards of school properties and not to possess firearms or any weapons if he is released from jail on bond.
