FOOTBALL

ASU game chosen for SEC Network

Arkansas State has had another 2016 football game picked up for national television.

ASU will play Auburn at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10, in a game televised by the SEC Network, the network announced Tuesday. The announcement came two days after Coach Blake Anderson said ASU’s season opener against Toledo was moved to 8 p.m. Sept. 2 and will be televised by one of ESPN’s networks.

ASU’s Sept. 16 game at Utah State will be on CBS Sports Network, making it so its first three games are on national TV.

ASU also plays Georgia Southern on Oct. 5 on ESPN2, and games at Georgia State on Nov. 3 and Troy on Nov. 17 will both be on ESPNU.

ASU is playing Auburn and former Coach Gus Malzahn for the second time in four seasons. Auburn won the previous meeting, 38-9, Sept. 7, 2013.

HIGH SCHOOL

Summer Workshop underway

The Arkansas Activities Association began its three-day Summer Workshop on Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Little Rock Airport Conference Center.

Among Tuesday’s business was a review of the spring survey from coaches and administrators. The AAA board of directors discussed two of the five items on the survey that received at least 66 percent of the vote — a possible zero week addition to the high school football calendar and the opportunity for schools to play two additional tennis tournaments. The board will hear those proposals today, with a do pass or a do not pass recommendation for the Governing Body meeting in August.

The workshop runs through Thursday.
