Berger ahead by 3

Daniel Berger shot a season-best 6-under 64 on Friday to take a three-stroke lead in the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis. Berger had six birdies in his bogey-free morning round to reach 9-under 131 at TPC Southwind, and nobody caught him atop the leaderboard. Berger has started well, despite breaking in a new driver and 3-wood after his old clubs finally cracked last week from age. Tom Hoge, part of a three-way tie for the lead after the first round, was second after a 69. He birdied the final two holes in the next-to-last group. Dustin Johnson, the 2012 champion, had a chance to catch Berger until dropping three strokes on the final two holes. Johnson finished with a 69 after wiping out four birdies and an eagle with three bogeys and a double bogey on No. 18 with what he called bad swings at the end. That finish left Johnson tied with Phil Mickelson (65) and Brooks Koepka (65) at 5 under. Mickelson, winless since the 2013 British Open, matched his low round this year with six birdies and one bogey. He's in Memphis fine-tuning his game for the U.S. Open next week, the one major that has eluded him in his career. Ken Duke (Arkadelphia, Henderson State) shot a 4-under 66 and is tied in a pack for sixth place at 4 under after two rounds. Andrew Landry (Arkansas Razorbacks) had a 1-over 71 and is 1 over after two rounds.

Brooke Henderson and Mirim Lee share the lead at 2 under halfway through the KPMG Women's PGA Championship at Sammamish, Wash. Henderson and Lee fought heavy rain, wind and a significant drop in the temperature Friday afternoon at Sahalee Country Club. After six consecutive pars, Henderson birdied the par-3 17th, but the 18-year-old Canadian bogeyed the 18th for a 2-over 73 that dropped her back into a tie with Lee. Lee started on the back nine and surged when she got to the front, making three birdies before dropping a shot late. The South Korean shot a 69. Top-ranked Lydia Ko was a stroke back along with Gerina Piller and Brittany Lincicome. Ko scrambled to a 70, Piller had a 69 and Lincicome shot 70. Inbee Park missed the cut after winning the event the past three years. A day after wrapping up an LPGA Hall of Fame spot, the South Korean followed her opening 72 with a 79. Park has been dealing with inflammation in the tendons and ligaments around her left thumb. Michelle Wie also dropped out, shooting 78-80. Gaby Lopez (Arkansas Razorbacks) shot a 72 and is 6 over going into the weekend. Stacy Lewis (Razorbacks) had a 76 and is 7 over after two rounds, making the cut by a stroke.

Josh Teater shot a 5-under 67 on Friday to take the lead at the Web.com Tour's Rust-Oleum Championship at Ivanhoe, Il. He is one stroke ahead of Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, who is one stroke ahead of John Mallinger. Austin Cook (Jonesboro, Arkansas Razorbacks), who was leading after the first round Thursday by one stroke, is tied for fourth at 8 under after shooting a 1-under 71. Josh Geary and Chris Baker are also at 8 under. Tag Ridings (Razorbacks) is tied for 12th at 6 under after a 3-under 69. Zack Fischer (Little Rock) had a 6-under 66 (141). Sebastian Cappelen (Razorbacks) had a 1-under 71 (147). Matt Atkins (Henderson State) shot a 5-over 77 (150). Scott Gardiner (Farmington) had a 3-over 75 (153).

• Two-time defending champion Bernhard Langer pulled within a stroke of leader Brandt Jobe on Friday in the Constellation Senior Players Championship. Langer shot a 2-under 68 at windy Philadelphia Cricket Club in the third of the PGA Tour Champions' five major championships. Jobe topped the leaderboard at 2 under after his second consecutive 69. Scott Dunlap had a 69 to match Langer at 1 under. First-round leader Jay Don Blake (72) was even par with Wes Short Jr. (69) and Bart Bryant (71). Tom Byrum had a 67, the best score of the week, to join Woody Austin (70) at 1 over. Vijay Singh followed his opening 69 with a 74 to drop to 3 over. Glen Day (Little Rock) shot a 71 and is 7 over. John Daly (Dardanelle, Arkansas Razorbacks) had his second consecutive 76 and is 12 over. He's playing his fifth event since turning 50 in late April.

Rookie driver William Byron passed Matt Crafton with five laps to go to win the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Fort Worth on Friday night. It was the second career victory for Byron, 18, who graduated from high school last month. Crafton, the two-time series champion racing the day before his 40th birthday, led 133 of 167 laps at the 1 1/2-mile, high-banked track where he had won the past two June races. He had overcome a cut rear tire in the early laps that damaged the truck and forced him to restart 25th. Chile tops Bolivia

Arturo Vidal scored his second goal of the game on a penalty kick in second-half stoppage time and Chile kept alive its hopes of advancing in Copa America with a 2-1 victory over Bolivia in Group D play Friday night in Foxborough, Mass. Defending Copa America champion Chile ended a three-game losing streak. Chile finished with 10 shots on goal to just one for Bolivia. Chile was awarded the penalty try after Luis Gutierrez was called for a hand ball. Vidal gave Chile a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the second half when he corralled a Bolivia turnover and executed a give-and-go with Mauricio Pinilla and slid a goal past Carlos Lampe. Bolivia tied it in the 61st minute when Jhasmani Campos hooked a left-footed free kick just inside the post from 30 yards out.

Lionel Messi scored three goals in a dazzling second-half display in his return from a back injury, and Argentina beat Panama 5-0 on Friday night to clinch a spot in the knockout round of the Copa America Centario in Chicago. Messi replaced Augusto Fernandez in the 61st minute, drawing a big ovation from a sea of No. 10 Argentina jerseys and the familiar colors of Barcelona, his club team. First, Roderick Miller's clearing attempt for Panama went off Gonzalo Higuain's hands as he went to protect his face and right to Messi, who took a couple dribbles and then beat Jaime Penedo on the ground to the goaltender's right side. Then Messi sent a curling free kick into the top left corner of the goal in the 78th minute, making it 3-0.
