Rockin’ Blue Ribbon Bash — with help from Razorbacks Coach Bret Bielema — scores a touchdown for Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation

The Rockin' Blue Ribbon Bash, held June 2 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Little Rock, was every color of upbeat.

The event drew more than 300 people and raised more than $141,000 for the Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Arkansas Razorbacks Coach Bret Bielema was the event's honoree and Person of the Year. Bielema mingled with -- and patiently posed for photos with -- several fans/partygoers.

The coach surprised the crowd by grabbing the microphone from auctioneer Jay Atkins during the live auction and showing off his own auctioneer skills, honed during his years growing up in agricultural circles. In a further attempt to astonish and raise money for the cause, he threw on the auction block his own tickets for seats on the 50-yard line for the home opener against Louisiana Tech.

Guests heard from Bielema as well as from emcee David Bazzel about the importance of being proactive in men's health care and about the facts and statistics of prostate screening and cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Co-chairmen Betsey and Joe Mowery and Betsey's father, Charlie Crow, a prostate cancer survivor, also mixed with those in attendance. Crow was presented the Volunteer of the Year Award.
