One of the better 2017 prospects in the state got better while attending Arkansas’ prospect camp on June 11.

Pulaski Robinson defensive end David Porter took advantage of the opportunity to learn from defensive line coach Rory Segrest, who spent five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles as defensive line coach and three as the special teams coordinator.

“First of all, I feel like I learned a lot,” Porter said. “Coach Segrest with his NFL D-line experience, I know anything he tells us will only make us better. So I’m going to take what he taught us and put it on the field. That’s the main thing I took from today is knowledge.”

Porter, 6-2, 225 pounds has scholarship offers from Iowa State, Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Memphis and Louisiana-Monroe while drawing interest from Arkansas, Texas A&M and others.

He received positive feedback from Segrest.

“He told me I did a good job,” Porter said. “He didn't tell everybody that, so I guess that’s something.”

Porter wrecked havoc on offenses last year by recording 84 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 1 pass deflection, 1 forced fumble and 1 recovered fumble.

In addition to Arkansas, Porter has attended college camps at Iowa State and Louisiana Tech.

“I’ve learned a whole lot and the summer isn't over, so we can only get better as individuals and as a team,” Porter said.

Porter would love to add an Arkansas offer to his list.

“That would mean a lot, my home state showing some love,” he said.
