Community Vigil and Labyrinth Walk

Open-Mic Night

CONWAY — There will be an Open-Mic Night at 7 p.m. at the Faulkner County Library. The featured artist will be BuckBell, followed by the open-mic session. Benefit Golf Tournament

CONWAY — A golf tournament to benefit the Women’s Shelter of Central Arkansas is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Nutters Chapel Golf and Country Club. Breakfast and registration will be at 7:45 a.m. The three-person scramble costs $300 per team. Cash prizes will be presented after lunch for closest to the pin and the longest drive. First Folio Fridays at the Library

CONWAY — In celebration of the Shakespeare First Folio on display at the University of Central Arkansas, the Faulkner County Library will offer two family-friendly events. At 3 p.m. Friday, members of the Society for Creative Anachronisms will help attendees “Walk a Mile in Shakespeare’s Shoes,” with costumes and demonstrations, plus a workshop in stage combat. At 3 p.m. July 1 , “Walk Away With Your Own Folio,” with Faulkner County Museum Director Lynita Langley Ware, will offer participants instruction in how to use found objects to create and decorate a small book. St. Joseph Annual Picnic

CENTER RIDGE — St. Joseph Catholic Church, 323 Catholic Point Road, will have its 87th annual picnic. The meal will include homemade Italian sausage and spaghetti, served from 2:30-8:30 p.m. To-go plates will be available at 3 p.m., and Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults and $6 for children ages 6-12. Children 5 and younger may eat free. A country store, bingo, a cake stand, games and refreshments will

be available.

Maumelle Tree Board Walk and Talk

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle Tree Board will host a Walk and Talk from 10 a.m. to noon with certified arborist Pete Rausch to teach participants about the care and selection of trees and woody shrubs. Meet in the Riverland area of Maumelle off Maumelle Boulevard, at Maumelle Heights Park on the Arkansas River. The walk will proceed in a circle back to the park. Conway AARP Chapter Meeting

CONWAY — The Conway AARP Chapter will have a potluck, bingo and fellowship meeting at the Conway First United Methodist Church. The group will meet at 10:45 a.m., eat at 11 a.m., play bingo at noon and dismiss at 1 p.m. The chapter will provide fried and baked chicken. All are welcome to attend and to join the chapter for $5 annually. Attendees are asked to bring a canned good for the group’s food pantry. Shakespeare Theatre’s 10th-Anniversary Season

CONWAY — Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre’s 10th-anniversary season will continue with the opening of Romeo and Juliet on Friday in Reynolds Performance Hall at UCA, and West Side Story will open June 24. AST’s family-friendly adaptation of Twelfth Night will open June 30 in Reynolds and will also tour the state in June and July, including a performance at 6:30 p.m. June 25 at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain. Civil War Exhibition

FAIRFIELD BAY — Fought in Earnest: Civil War Arkansas, a free traveling exhibit chronicling major historical events in Arkansas between 1861 and 1865, will be displayed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today, and Tuesday through June 23, at the Fairfield Bay Community Education Center, 130 Village Lane. The exhibit contains 15 free-standing banners that showcase images from the Arkansas History Commission’s holdings. Original documents, photographs, maps, drawings, paintings and artifacts illustrate the story of the Civil War in Arkansas.

Third Thursday Farmers Market

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Third Thursday Farmers Market will be open from 9-11 a.m. today and July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15 and Oct. 20 in the Fairfield Bay Community Education Center Courtyard, 130 Village Lane. The market features plants, produce and herbs. Setup is at 8 a.m., and there are no vendor fees.

Music in the Mall

FAIRFIELD BAY — Music in the Mall, featuring local and drop-in performers, will take place from 6-9 p.m. the first, second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Education Center Gazebo in the Village Mall. All are invited to bring instruments, their singing voices, lawn chairs and neighbors. The event is free. Learn to Swim Program Registration

RUSSELLVILLE — The Russellville Recreation and Parks Department is conducting swim lessons with certified Red Cross instructors at the M.J. Hickey Pool. Sessions and classes will be determined by the number of participants. Each session will include eight lessons in two weeks. Morning and evening classes will be offered. Register from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Hughes Community Center, 1000 E. Parkway Drive. A parent or legal guardian needs to register minors, and the fee is $60. Live Band Karaoke for the Arts

CONWAY — Live Band Karaoke for the Arts will be presented from 6-8 p.m. June 23 at Kings Live Music, 1020 Front St. Singers will be accompanied by Gary Summers and his Summertime Band. Conway Alliance for the Arts asks a $20 donation for solo acts, and $30 for group performances. Registration and song selection are due at 5 p.m. today. Fourth Night Art Walk

CONWAY — The Fourth Night Art Walk will take place from 5-8 p.m. June 24 in downtown Conway. People can take a self-guided tour of art galleries at UCA Downtown, Carmen’s Antiques, EM Jeans and Expressions. Work of local artists will also be on display at Simon Park. QuickBooks Workshops

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Tech Small Business and Technology Development Center will present two hands-on workshops for QuickBooks desktop software users June 29 at Arkansas Tech. The 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. session, QuickBooks for Beginners, includes setup, reconciling accounts, working with lists, customers, vendors, assets and liabilities. The 1:30-4:30 p.m. session, QuickBooks Day-to-Day Basics, includes invoicing, receiving payments, bills, handling sales tax and more. Computers will be provided for use during the sessions. Fireworks Extravaganza

HEBER SPRINGS — The Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce will present one of the largest fireworks displays in Arkansas over Greers Ferry Lake on July 2. All are invited to view the Fireworks Extravaganza on the shores of Sandy Beach in Heber Springs or by boat. There will be kids’ activities and food vendors, and live music will start at 7 p.m., followed by the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., accompanied by choreographed music on KFFB 106.1 FM. CONWAY — The Conway Human Development Center Fishing Derby will begin at 7:30 a.m. July 30 at the CHDC Pond, 150 E. Siebenmorgen Road. Participants must be 12 years old or younger, or community individuals with developmental disabilities. Prizes will be awarded at 10:45 a.m. Anglers must bring fishing equipment, buckets and bait/supplies. Registration is $5 for the early-bird special, or $10, starting at 6:30 a.m. at the derby.
