An accident involving a Rock Region Metro bus shut down the intersection of Scott and 8th streets in Little Rock on Monday morning.

Rock Region spokesman Becca Green said the video system aboard the bus showed that it had a green light as it headed north on Scott. She said the bus entered the intersection and hit a red Toyota pickup that was heading west on 8th.

Green said seven of the eight bus passengers were taken to the hospital along with the bus driver and the driver of the pickup. She and officials from MEMs could not comment on the severity of the injuries. No fatalities were reported.

Amos Washington Jr. of Little Rock said he saw the crash and that the Toyota driver was bleeding from the head before he was taken to the hospital.

“He was unconscious for awhile,” Washington said. “I thought he was dead.”

He said the Toyota driver regained conscious before he was taken to the hospital.

The bus had dents in its front along with a cracked windshield. The Toyota had severe dents in its driver's side and had gone off the road in the northwest corner of the intersection.

Angela Labia of Little Rock witnessed the crash and said the truck was turning right onto Scott Street when it was hit by the bus.

“He spun around and hit the wall [of the Albert Pike Memorial Temple],” she said of the pickup. “The truck almost flipped over.”

Labia also said the light was green for the bus.

Little Rock police and two ambulances were at the scene along with Rock Region staff.

Green said Rock Region would review the video of the crash again. As of 11:30 a.m., the intersection was still shut down with the bus still sitting in the center of the street.
