2 overnight shootings in Little Rock send 2 to hospital; no arrests made

Two overnight shootings in Arkansas’ capital city left two Little Rock residents injured, according to police.

The first shooting was reported about 10:10 p.m. Monday at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of North Shackleford Road.

Resident Mecca Johnson, 31, told authorities at the scene that she had been shot in the left arm by an unknown person outside her apartment at The Berkley.

Her roommate, Latasha Smith, 26, said Johnson walked outside with two knives as she was putting children to sleep inside. Smith, who did not see the person outside with Johnson, later heard a gunshot, she told police.

In a separate report, Kendrick Rollins, 46, told authorities that he was shot about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday while walking Essience Thrower, 18, of North Little Rock to her silver 2012 Hyundai Accent.

Rollins said one of two black men wearing masks drove up to a home in the 4200 block of West 17th Street, placed what he believed to be a 9mm handgun to his head and hit him with the gun about three times before entering the house.

A shot was fired through the front glass of the car after the unknown man pulled the weapon on Rollins and said "I seen you at the casino," Thrower told police.

While inside, the man stole a mirror safe bolted inside his closet with about $40,000 stored inside, Rollins told authorities.

Rollins described the men as being in their 20s, standing 6 feet tall and having a medium build. He said the men were traveling in a white Dodge Charger.

Johnson and Rollins were both transported to local hospitals for treatment and later released, according to police. Thrower was not injured, a report states.
