Brandon Edwards, 30, died at a Jonesboro hospital, said Jonesboro Police Department spokesman Paul Holmes.

According to police reports, Edwards and James Bryan Campbell, 30, of Jonesboro, went to Ryan Wilson's apartment on Flint Street at about 11:50 p.m. Sunday and knocked on Wilson's door. Wilson, 33, said Edwards was holding a rope and Campbell had a shotgun. Wilson told police he thought the two were going to kill him.

Campbell later told authorities the two went to Wilson's apartment to get money Wilson owed them.

Cpl. Jonathan Wood reported that Wilson ran out of his apartment when police arrived and yelled "I did it."

Wilson said the two men approached him and that Edwards said he was going to kill Wilson.

"[Wilson] said the two males kept approaching him and he was afraid so he started shooting," Wood wrote in his police report.

Wilson told Wood that he shot out a back window so he could escape.

Police found an AR-15 rifle near Wilson's home.

Officer Jacob Daffron reported finding Edwards lying on the front yard of the apartment complex. He had been shot in the chest, Daffron said.

Police had listed Edwards and Campbell as suspects in the burglary. Campbell was being held in the Craighead County jail in Jonesboro on suspicion of aggravated robbery, Holmes said.

Wilson was not charged with a crime, Holmes said.
