Civil War Exhibition

FAIRFIELD BAY — Fought in Earnest: Civil War Arkansas, a free traveling exhibit chronicling major historical events in Arkansas between 1861 and 1865, will be displayed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Bay Community Education Center, 130 Village Lane. The exhibit contains 15 free-standing banners that showcase images from the Arkansas History Commission’s holdings. Original documents, photographs, maps, drawings, paintings and artifacts illustrate the story of the Civil War in Arkansas.

Facebook Security 101

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Fairfield Bay Community Education Center, 130 Village Lane, Suite 5E, will offer a Facebook Security 101 class from 1-3 p.m. Participants will learn about many of the privacy settings on Facebook, how they work and why they’re important. The fee is $45, and the class will be taught by Kathy Camp in Windows 10. Laptops will be provided for use in the class. June Family Movie Night

MORRILTON — As part of its ongoing centennial celebration, the Conway County Library, 101 W. Church St., will present a screening of Disney’s American Legends at 7 p.m. This animated adventure features the exploits of such iconic American legends as Pecos Bill, John Henry, Johnny Appleseed and Casey Jones. Fourth Night Art Walk

CONWAY — The Fourth Night Art Walk will take place from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Conway. People can take a self-guided tour of art galleries at UCA Downtown, Carmen’s Antiques, EM Jeans and Expressions. Work of local artists will also be on display at Simon Park. For artists who want to participate, booth space is available for $25, with proceeds benefiting the Conway Alliance for the Arts. Book Signing

Lynda Tharp, author of Hannah’s Hair Nest will be at the Faulkner County Library at 11 a.m. to sign and sell copies of her book. Lynda Tharp is a Mississippi native and retired teacher, living in Shirley. Based on her granddaughter’s fight with cancer, Hannah’s Hair Nest takes a true-life event and creates a moving short story with a strong spiritual message. Audubon Society Meeting

The Arkansas River Valley Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m., on Petit Jean Mountain at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in the Stables Classroom. Call (501) 977-3899 for more information. The program will be presented by Heather Hula, a park interpreter at Petit Jean State Park. The topic will be Emerging fungal infections: a threat to Arkansas amphibians. QuickBooks Workshops

RUSSELLVILLE — The Arkansas Tech Small Business and Technology Development Center will present two hands-on workshops for QuickBooks desktop software users at Arkansas Tech. The 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. session, QuickBooks for Beginners, includes setup, reconciling accounts, working with lists, customers, vendors, assets and liabilities. The 1:30-4:30 p.m. session, QuickBooks Day-to-Day Basics, includes invoicing, receiving payments, bills, handling sales tax and more. Computers will be provided for use during the sessions. FAIRFIELD BAY — An open-mic music event will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. the second and third Thursdays of each month at the Fairfield Bay Conference Center. Shakespeare Theatre’s 10th-Anniversary Season

CONWAY — Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre’s 10th-anniversary season will continue with the opening of West Side Story on Friday in Reynolds Performance Hall at the University of Central Arkansas. AST’s family-friendly adaptation of Twelfth Night will open June 30 in Reynolds and will also tour the state in June and July, including a performance at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain. Third Thursday Farmers Market

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Third Thursday Farmers Market will be open from 9-11 a.m. July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 15 and Oct. 20 in the Fairfield Bay Community Education Center Courtyard, 130 Village Lane. The market features plants, produce and herbs. Setup is at 8 a.m., and there are no vendor fees.

Tea Party Luncheon

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Tea Party has a luncheon at noon every Thursday at Larry’s Pizza, 1068 Markham St. Guest speakers and the members’ “soap box” are featured each week. Anyone interested in governmental and business affairs on the county, state or national level is invited to arrive early, eat pizza and meet the group’s members.

First Folio Friday at the Library

CONWAY — In celebration of the Shakespeare First Folio on display at the University of Central Arkansas, the Faulkner County Library will offer another family-friendly event. At 3 p.m. July 1 , “Walk Away With Your Own Folio,” with Faulkner County Museum Director Lynita Langley Ware, will offer participants instruction in how to use found objects to create and decorate a small book. Fireworks Extravaganza

HEBER SPRINGS — The Heber Springs Area Chamber of Commerce will present one of the largest fireworks displays in Arkansas over Greers Ferry Lake on July 2. All are invited to view the Fireworks Extravaganza on the shores of Sandy Beach in Heber Springs or by boat. There will be kids’ activities and food vendors, and live music will start at 7 p.m., followed by the fireworks display at 9:30 p.m., accompanied by choreographed music on KFFB 106.1 FM. Maumelle Cardboard Boat Races

MAUMELLE — The Maumelle Area Chamber of Commerce will present the third annual Cardboard Boat Races at 5:30 p.m. July 4 at Lake Willastein. Boat check-in will begin at 2 p.m., and the race will begin immediately after the parade. This year’s theme is American Heroes, and participants are encouraged to decorate their boats and attire. Teams will consist of two participants in each boat. All teams must have one participant 12 or older. Early-bird registration is $30 per team through Friday, then the cost will be $40 per team. Fishing Derby

CONWAY — The Conway Human Development Center Fishing Derby will begin at 7:30 a.m. July 30 at the CHDC Pond, 150 E. Siebenmorgen Road. Participants must be 12 years old or younger, or community individuals with developmental disabilities. Prizes will be awarded at 10:45 a.m. Anglers must bring fishing equipment, buckets and bait/supplies. Registration is $5 for the early-bird special, or $10, starting at 6:30 a.m. at the derby.
