Fayetteville's tourism commission to interview director applicants

FAYETTEVILLE -- The city's tourism commission narrowed its search for an executive director to three candidates.

The Advertising and Promotion Commission on Tuesday plans to interview Matt Behrend, Molly Rawn and Angie Albright for the job. The position oversees the commission's $5 million budget and its work to market Fayetteville and its attractions and bring in more tourism, which includes running the city's visitor's bureau, Town Center and Clinton House Museum.

Executive director Kym Hughes, who took the job in 2014 and moved to Fayetteville from Georgia, is stepping down July 1 to be closer to her family. Her starting salary was $85,000.

Commission chairman Matthew Petty said Wednesday the commission has discussed hiring the next director on a contract basis, making it permanent if the new person meets certain performance goals. But the commission could also vote to hire the new person permanently right away, he said.

Behrend is a member of the commission and regional operations manager for Krushiker Hospitality Group, which runs three hotels in Fayetteville. He hass recused from discussion about the position.

Rawn is development and communications director for the Scott Family Amazeum.

Albright works as development and outreach director for the Arkansas Support Network, which works to help people with disabilities and is a member of Feed Communities' board, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Tuesday's meeting is set to start at 1:10 p.m. at the Town Center on Block Avenue. The interviews are the only business on the agenda.
