Federal grant to fix rail line's drainage

The Southeast Arkansas Economic Development District of Pine Bluff has received a $380,000 grant from the U.S. Commerce Department, the agency announced Wednesday.

The grant from the Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration is to be used to help develop a drainage system to protect a railroad line in Chicot County.

Flooding in recent years has hurt businesses in the region, and development of the drainage system is necessary to protect the rail line, the news release said.

The railroad drainage improvements will run from Lake Village to the Arkansas-Louisiana border in Chicot County, the news release said.
