Index gives up 0.51 with no big gainers

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, fell 0.51 to 322.92 Wednesday.

Half of the issues fell and the other half saw gains of less than 1 percent.

Shares of P.A.M. Transportation Services Inc. fell 3.5 percent and Windstream fell nearly 3 percent.

America's Car-Mart fell 2 percent and Murphy Oil fell 0.88 percent.

Communications Sales & Leasing shares gained almost 1 percent.

Total volume for the index was 21 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
