CONWAY -- Kelvin Robinson wants to impress the home crowd one more time at tonight's Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star boys basketball game, but the 6-1 guard promises it will not be his final opportunity to perform in Arkansas.
Robinson will play this fall at Appalachian State, a Sun Belt Conference program located in Boone, N.C. The Mountaineers are scheduled to play at Arkansas State and at UALR in February.
"I'll get to play in Arkansas at least two or three times a year," Robinson said. "Before they contacted me, I knew nothing about [Appalachian State] at all. But I like everything about them -- the coaches, the facilities, the area. It was a good overall fit for me."
Robinson played on three conference championship teams, two state championship teams and one state runner-up team in his four years at Episcopal Collegiate. He averaged 29 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals a game during his senior season.
Robinson is a member of the East All-Star team, which has won six consecutive games against the West. The East leads 41-29 in the series, which dates back to 1956. Tonight's game is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m.
"I'm glad I'll get this last opportunity to play and showcase my talents and how I've grown since the season started," Robinson said. "I've been in the gym a lot. I don't think I'm a whole new player, but I've made some changes, added some new things to my game, and I feel like I can show some of those things this week."
