LITTLE ROCK — The city of Little Rock is opening four cooling centers as the summer starts heating up.

The city said the centers opened Friday and will be open weekdays. The National Weather Service said hot and humid temperatures are in the forecast for the next week, with heat index values expected to exceed 100 degrees.

Four Little Rock community centers will be using as cooling centers. They're located at the Dunbar, Southwest, East Little Rock and Stephens community centers.

Even hotter weather is occurring in eastern Arkansas, where a heat advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Friday.
