North Little Rock firefighters put out grass fire near railroad tracks

North Little Rock firefighters extinguished a grass fire near railroad tracks at East 8th Street and North Palm Street Saturday afternoon, a fire department official said.

Firefighters were called to a grass fire around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, said North Little Rock Deputy Fire Marshal Dustin Free.

The grass fire jumped over the railroad tracks and came within two feet of a metal building, Free said. The fire burned about a half acre, he said, but there were no delays as the track was a private line.

While the cause of the fire is unknown, Free said it’s common to have grass fires in high temperatures.
