Fleet Reserve

The Fleet Reserve Association and Auxiliary will meet at noon today at Veteran’s Park in Rogers, 200 E. Veterans Parkway. A potluck will take place prior to the meeting.

Orchid Society

Orchid Society of the Ozarks will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Northwest Technical Institute in Springdale, 709 S. Old Missouri Road. The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly judging, raffles for members and occasional public auctions offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

NWAGS

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main St.

Marcia Connors, a professional genealogist for more than 10 years, will present a program covering sayings such as “once in a blue moon” and legal terminology like “relict.”

Democrats

Benton County Democrats will meet at noon Monday at Golden Corral in Rogers, 2605 W. Pleasant Crossing. Lunch will start at 11 a.m. Stephen Smith, professor of communications at the University of Arkansas and a former aide to Bill Clinton, will be the featured speaker. He will discuss the presidential nominating process in his talk “Parties, Primaries and Presidents.”

Calico Cut-Ups

The Calico Cut-Ups quilt guild will meet at 1 p.m. Monday in Becker Hall at First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive. The speaker will be Toby Lischko with a lecture on “How the Curved Block Influenced My Quilting.” Lischko has been quilting since 1985 and has won many awards for her quilts. She has completed commissioned work for fabric companies and quilt magazines and is currently doing an online class with American Quilter’s Society.

The vendor is Country House Quilting from Pea Ridge, and the fat quarter drawing is patriotic. Bring cereal and crackers donations for the Shepherd’s Food Pantry at the Bella Vista Lutheran Church.

Lischko will give a workshop on the “St. Louis Stars” at 9 a.m. today. The fee is $20 for the class and $25 kit fee.

Rogers Art Guild

The Rogers Art Guild will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers. Stan Cox, graphite artist, will present the program.

Republican Women

The Washington County Republican women will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Abba’s House Coffee Shoppe in Springdale, 2250 W. Sunset Ave. The social will begin at 6 p.m. Special guest speaker will be state Rep. Bob Ballinger (R-Madison).

Whirlaways

Ark-Oma Whirlaways Dance Club will have its patriotic dance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Springdale Senior Center, 203 Park St. Bob Loyd will be calling. Dancers should wear red, white or blue. Kingsdale Squares and the Ridge Rockers are invited to join the Whirlaways for this dance. Dancing will be mainstream and plus.

American Legion Post 77

Bentonville American Legion Post 77 meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month in the Masonic Lodge, 805 NW. Eighth St. A light dinner is served at 6 p.m.

Post 77 hosts a veterans coffee from 9 a.m. to noon the fourth Saturday of each month at the Center for Nonprofit at St. Mary’s in Rogers, 1200 W. Walnut St. All veterans and their families are invited.

Republican Party

The monthly meeting of the Republican Party of Benton County will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Benton County Services Center in Bentonville, 1204 SW. 14th St. Cassie Elliott, board member and past president of the Benton County Historical Society, who will speak about the state of historic preservation in Benton County.

The Benton County Republican Women also will be host for a build-your-ownsundae bar from 6:30 to 7 p.m. There will be a limited amount of homemade pie, brownies and drinks. The cost is $5 per person.

The Bella Vista Art Club meeting takes place at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Wishing Spring Gallery in Bella Vista.

PSNWA

The Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas will offer a class on “How to Shoot Fireworks” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the PSNWA Gallery & Studios in Springdale, 126 W. Emma Ave. The class is preparation for a special event the next night, July 1, in which photographers will go to Arvest Ballpark to photograph the fireworks after the Northwest Arkansas Naturals game. Instructor Melissa Jones will teach the basics on fireworks photography to be used during the holidays and at Arvest Ballpark. The class and photo shoot are free to members or $15 each to nonmembers.
