NLR firefighters put out grass fire

North Little Rock firefighters extinguished a grass fire near railroad tracks at East Eighth Street and North Palm Street on Saturday afternoon, a fire department official said.

Firefighters were called to a grass fire about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, North Little Rock Deputy Fire Marshal Dustin Free said.

The grass fire crossed the railroad tracks and came within 2 feet of a metal building, Free said. The fire burned about a half acre, he said, but there were no delays, as the track was a private line.

The cause of the fire is unknown, Free said.
