Playground fire at Little Rock primary school under investigation

A fire at a Little Rock school's playground is under investigation, and officials have not ruled out arson, according to a fire department spokesman.

Capt. Edwin Woolf said the blaze was reported about 11:35 p.m. Sunday at Chicot Primary School, 11100 Chicot Road, in Mabelvale.

The extent of the damage was not immediately clear, and no one was reported injured, Woolf said.

The Little Rock School District and fire marshals with the Little Rock Fire Department are investigating.

Sunday’s fire was the second playground fire at a Little Rock district school this month, Arkansas Online previously reported. That fire left a jungle gym melted and metal monkey bars singed at Carver Magnet Elementary School on the city’s east side.

It also comes after two reported arsons at two Little Rock district schools last summer — Franklin Incentive Elementary School and Geyer Springs Elementary School.
