Springdale police arrested a Fayetteville man who they said is among four who held another man at gunpoint and robbed him Monday in Springdale, according to a preliminary police report.

James Donnell Maxey Jr., 25, of 900 N. Leverett Ave. in Fayetteville was arrested in connection with aggravated robbery.

Police said Maxey and three other men, all holding guns, robbed another man who was in a car at 3:21 p.m. Monday at West Sunset Avenue and Henryetta Street, according to the report.

The man was trying to buy a pound of marijuana from another man, who was an acquaintance, police said in the report. Two vehicles then blocked in the man’s vehicle, and the men inside held guns on him and took $3,000, according to the report.

Police found Maxey and another man they believed to be involved at an apartment in Fayetteville, according to the police report. One man fled before police could arrest him, police said.

Police then saw Maxey attempt to leave in a black SUV that was similar to one in a video surveillance, the report shows. Maxey also was identified as one of the robbers from a police photo, the report shows.

Maxey denied involvement, according to the report.

Maxey was at the Washington County Detention Center with a $15,000 bond Tuesday, jail records show. Police asked for a high bond because Maxey has lived in the area only six months and may be a flight risk, the report shows.

Police had not arrested the other people they believed are involved by Tuesday afternoon, according to jail records.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Springdale police spokesman Derek Wright had not returned a voicemail and text message left on his department cell phone seeking comment on the incident and arrest.
