Storms cut power for 6,000

Heavy rain caused power outages across the state Monday night and covered some Little Rock roads with water.

Scattered rain had been falling across the state since Sunday night, and stronger storms started around 7 p.m. Monday, said Sean Clarke, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in North Little Rock. Some areas of west Little Rock saw more than an inch of rain in 25 minutes, he said.

Entergy Arkansas reported about 6,000 electrical outages across the state around 9:10 p.m. More than half occurred in Pulaski and Hot Spring counties, and the only reports of downed trees came from Little Rock, Clarke said.

He said the unsettled weather will continue through the week as a cold front approaches from the north.
