Rodney O'Neal Thompson, 43, of Atlanta and Seddrick D. McShan, 44, of Riverside, Calif., were arrested early Saturday and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Thompson also was charged with driving on a suspended license and failure to pay unified carrier registration fees.

About 4:30 a.m., officers stopped a 1-ton pickup hauling a 2013 Volkswagen at the Highway Police Lehi Weigh Station on Interstate 40 near West Memphis.

Thompson, the driver, initially gave officers the driver's license for McShan and claimed it as his own, highway police said in a news release. Seeing that the physical description on the license didn't match Thompson's appearance, highway police said, the officers investigated further and obtained Thompson's driver's license, which was suspended.

That and other behavior highway police deemed suspicious led the officers to call in the Crittenden County K-9 unit for assistance, the agency said. The dog "alerted" to the top ramp of the trailer, where officers found the marijuana in the Volkswagen trunk, highway police said.

Officers believed the truck was traveling from Washington state to Atlanta.

Both men were being held in lieu of $75,000 bond Wednesday, according to the online roster for the Crittenden County jail.
