For an athlete to be successful in any sport, he or she must have have the drive to be the best.

Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove defensive back Korey Hernandez, who committed to Arkansas last Friday, has that trait.

“He’s one of the hardest workers as far as work ethic and being 17 years old, it’s just very rare,” Cedar Grove assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Chris Hill said. “He’s kind of worked himself to death to kind of get to where he is now. That’s why I’m happy for him.”

Hernandez, 5-11, 175 pounds, 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash, picked the Razorbacks over about 20 other scholarship offers, including ones from Iowa, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, South Florida, Southern Miss, Tulane, Kent State and Toledo.

He led the school in all defensive categories with 85 tackles, 2 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 12 pass breakups and 2 recovered fumbles.

Hill, who praised Arkansas defensive line Rory Segrest's recruiting efforts, said Hernandez is the strongest skill athletes on the team.

“He’s like a 245-pound power clean, he’s right at 245 to 250 on the bench and 450 on the squat,” Hill said.
