Ex-Arkansas football coach accused of having sex with student

A former Searcy County football coach is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl on multiple occasions during summer break, including once on school property, according to court filings.

In an affidavit filed Wednesday, Arkansas State Police said they interviewed a teenager who reported engaging in sexual intercourse with Lee Mical Sadler, 30, on two occasions earlier this month.

The first occasion, she said, was in early June inside a Searcy County School District field house in Marshall. Sadler, who coaches at Marshall High School, admitted to the encounter during an interview with state police, adding that the act occurred during a youth camp that week, the affidavit reads.

Sadler is accused of then having sex with the teen June 20 at his house in Marshall, police said.

He faces a charge of first-degree sexual assault, a class A felony, in Searcy County Circuit Court, records show.

According to the filing, Sadler told authorities that he submitted his resignation from employment with the Searcy County School District earlier this week.

Sadler was also listed as a coach for middle, junior high school football on the school district’s website. He also taught history and psychology.

A request for comment from Searcy County School District Superintendent Alan Yarbrough was not immediately returned Thursday morning.

Records show Sadler was booked into the Searcy County jail Wednesday and released on $75,000 bond a short time later. He has a first appearance set for Aug. 15 in circuit court.
