Devonte Galmore, 24, surrendered to police Tuesday night at about 10:20 p.m. with his family present, said Lt. Steve McClanahan, spokesman for the Little Rock Police Department. Galmore was placed under arrest at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, the report said.

The boy, whose name wasn't released by police, was riding a skateboard down a hill on Delrose Drive in southwest Little Rock at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a gray Chevrolet Impala traveling on South Meadowcliff Drive, McClanahan said. The boy was pronounced dead later that night at Arkansas Children's Hospital, he said.

McClanahan said a woman passenger got out of the car to check on the boy, but the driver ordered her to get back in the car.

Fe'Gerra Stewart, the passenger in the Impala, was interviewed by police and released without any charges, McClanahan said.

Galmore is charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident. McClanahan said he could face further charges, depending on a drug screening taken after he was arrested.

Galmore was previously convicted of leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage in March 2011, according to court records. Court records show he also has violations for careless and prohibited driving, failing to stop or yield to traffic signs and driving without proof of insurance.

He was not listed in Pulaski County jail's inmate roster Wednesday night.
