Nearly seven months after the New Year’s Day death of a 32-year-old man in Arkansas’ capital city, a suspect has now been named in his slaying.

The Little Rock Police Department said Thursday that a warrant is active for Robert Lee Cheeter Jr., 28, on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Terry Jones — the city’s first homicide this year. Cheeter uses "Flame" as an alias, police said.

Jones was found shot multiple times around 8 p.m. Jan. 1 in the driver’s seat of a car on East 22nd Street, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police said Cheeter is also sought in a June 20 shooting at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of North Shackleford Road that left resident Mecca Johnson, 31, injured.

Cheeter is described as standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds. He has braids in his hair, according to authorities.

His last known addresses included homes on East 22nd Street and North Shackleford Road. According to the statement, Cheeter is also known to frequent the area of 21st Street and Security Avenue.

Anyone with information regarding Cheeter’s whereabouts is asked to call Little Rock police at (501) 404-3125.
