Dennis, less than two weeks removed from being medically cleared to run, passed Rogers Heritage's James Parker with about 50 meters to go to win the boys 800-meter run. Dennis wound up tying his personal-best and finished with a time of 2 minutes, 2.74 seconds, more than a second faster than Parker.

"It was a pretty good race," Dennis said. "It's the first time I've run on this track, but I like it.

"I ran at the Fayetteville meet last week, and they did a waterfall start. I got caught up behind a lot of people and didn't have a good time, and I was out of shape. The guy I was chasing has a similar time, but my coach told me I could catch him this time."

Jeter, who won the 400 during the state indoor meet for Class 1A-4A schools, continued her winning ways in that event. She turned in a time of 1:02.54 to beat second-place Grace Risenhoover of Rogers by more than seven-10th of a second, and she also finished third in the 100 and fourth in the 200.

Fayetteville, though was a big winner in the team standings and swept both titles in the damp conditions. Fayetteville's boys compiled 156.5 points to 93 for second-place Springdale Har-Ber, while the girls had 191 points to 140 for second-place Rogers High.

"Coming out here, you're having to deal with weather and other things that you're not used to during indoor," Fayetteville coach Drew Yoakum said. "I think we started off the season well, and that's all we're trying to do. We want to build on what happened in indoor, and hopefully good things will happen."

The Purple'Dogs took first in nine of 17 events, including a double victory by Blake Young. Young won the shot put with a toss of 52 feet and teamed with Spencer Stone to give Fayetteville a one-two finish in that event, then he took the discus with a distance of 151-1, beating Har-Ber's Sam Hall by more than 13 feet.

Meanwhile, McKenzie Penne led Fayetteville's girls by earning the high point award. Penne earned victories in the 100 hurdles (16.59) and the triple jump (35-2.5) and also ran a leg in the Lady Purple'Dogs' winning 4x100 relay team while finishing third in the 300 hurdles.
