Arkansas court won't reconsider ruling on cash-only bail

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Supreme Court says it won't reconsider its ruling that defendants can be required to pay their bail in cash.

The court Thursday denied the petition for rehearing by Ramon Trujillo, who had objected to a $300,000 cash-only bail in an aggravated assault and domestic battery case. Justices last month dismissed Trujillo's argument that the lower court requiring cash-only bail was unconstitutional.

Trujillo's case last month had prompted interim Chief Justice Howard Brill to issue a dissenting opinion that quoted Johnny Cash's song "Starkville City Jail." The song is about Cash's 1965 arrest in the Mississippi town for public drunkenness.
