Ex-Wal-Mart official joins trucker's board

Former Wal-Mart executive Susan Chambers has been added to USA Truck's board of directors.

Chambers' appointment continues the Van Buren-based trucking company's efforts to strengthen its governance structure, according to USA Truck Chairman Bob Peiser.

Chambers, 58, retired from Wal-Mart in July. She joined the retailer in 1999 and was promoted to chief human resource officer in 2006. Before Wal-Mart, Chambers spent 14 years at Hallmark Inc.

"Susan's vast experience as a senior officer of one of America's iconic companies will assist us in areas that are critical to the success of our company -- most notably, driver and staff retention," Peiser said in a news release.

USA Truck also announced that J.D. Simpson will retire from the board at the company's annual meeting. Simpson has been a USA Truck board member since 2010.
