SCULPTURE PREVIEW

400 rock the River Market to help pick piece for park

The preview party for the ninth Sculpture at the River Market took place April 22 under the River Market pavilions, and about 400 showed up to eat and aesthete.

Folks passed by seven small exhibits representing the proposals of the seven artists up for the $80,000 commission. Five of the seven are from central Colorado, and the winner is Clay Enoch of Colorado Springs, whose piece is titled United.

Little Rock's Kevin Kresse, with his piece Thirst, was the lone in-state contender. The two runners-up to Enoch were Loveland, Colo., residents Kathleen Caricof with Enlightenment and Denny Haskew with Strength to Endure.

The three finalists were all decided by voters at this preview party. These then went through a juried selection process that was concluded last Sunday.

The Sculpture at the River Market Invitational Show and Sale featured more than 800 sculptures, nearly all for sale, that spilled from under the pavilions and onto the lawn.

Tickets were $100.

The sale began in earnest the next morning.
