Hogs drop series to No. 2 Aggies

The Aggies won the series after the teams split a doubleheader Saturday.

Texas A&M (35-9, 14-7 SEC) scored four runs off Arkansas starter Keaton McKinney in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead. The Aggies led by as many as five runs before Carson Shaddy hit a solo home run to leadoff the bottom of the ninth for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas (26-18, 7-14) recorded a hit in every inning but the first against Simonds, but most came with two outs in an inning. The Razorbacks had scored a combined 17 runs against the Aggies in two games Saturday.

Simonds allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out five in his first complete game. He threw 115 pitches.

Arkansas looked as if it may get to Simonds when three straight batters reached with one out in the bottom of the second. Michael Bernal tripled and scored on a single by Shaddy, but the Razorbacks' rally ended when Tucker Pennell struck out and Cody Scroggins grounded out to strand two runners.

The Aggies took the lead with a pair of doubles in the fourth. Boomer White's one-out double tied the game and Michael Barash had a two-out double to give Texas A&M a 3-1 lead. Nick Banks also had a two-out RBI single in the inning.

Only one of the runs was earned. Nick Choruby reached with one out on a throwing error by Bernal.

McKinney pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Razorbacks and allowed one earned run on six hits. He struck out five.

Joel Davis added an RBI single off reliever Kacey Murphy in the sixth inning and White had an RBI double off Isaiah Campbell in the ninth. White, who entered the game with a .432 batting average, finished the series 6-for-12 with four extra-base hits.

Arkansas is scheduled to play again Tuesday at No. 23 Missouri State before a conference series next weekend at No. 13 LSU.
