Pair who dress the stars shine at luncheon show

Noted fashion designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka (of Badgley Mischka) are known for taking simple, classic lines and interpreting them in stunning ways -- so stunning that their creations have been worn by such show-business royalty as Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Garner.

The men were the featured guests at the 2016 Bolo Bash Luncheon, the annual Baptist Health fundraiser. The event took place April 20 in the J.A. Gilbreath Conference Center at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Guests enjoyed a meal of grilled gulf shrimp and herbed chicken salad with parsley orzo, prepared by chef Len Thompson, and desserts by chef Herman Lee.

Annemarie Dillard Jazic served as the chairman of the event, whose venue was draped in all white to resemble a New York-style fashion show. And a New York-style show, commentated by the designers, was just what luncheongoers received. The headliners were the evening-wear pieces: a couple of glitzy floral gowns, including a gown with a deep V-neck bodice accented with a striped, multicolored skirt; and a silvery, ethereal lace creation with dramatic front ruffle. Afterward, master of ceremonies Lisa Fischer interviewed the men with her customary humorous aplomb.

A highlight of the luncheon was Fischer's introduction of the hospital's nurses, who took the stage before the fashion show.

Bolo Bash drew $194,000 for Baptist Health's Nursing Excellence Campaign, reported Jamie Deason, special events and development officer for the Baptist Health Foundation.
