Gov. Asa Hutchinson's chief of staff, former state Sen. Michael Lamoureux, will depart the governor's office at the end of the month for "another professional opportunity" in his hometown of Russellville, a spokesman for Hutchinson said Monday.

J.R. Davis, the governor's spokesman, confirmed the news early Monday.

In a joint statement from the governor's office, both Hutchinson and Lamoureux said they appreciated their time working together.

"Michael has been an essential part of my team from the beginning, and I will greatly miss his counsel and strategic thinking," Hutchinson said in the statement.

It wasn't immediately known what job Lamoureux is taking, Davis said, but he noted that the location of Lamoureux's family in Russellville was likely a factor in the move.

Before joining the governor's office at the start of Hutchinson's first term in 2015, Lamoureux, a Republican, served as president pro tempore of the Arkansas Senate. Before that, he served in the Arkansas House, including a term as House minority leader.
