Man fatally shot, woman injured in Arkansas, authorities say

A man was found dead and a woman injured after authorities were called to a weekend shooting in Hot Springs, according to the Garland County sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded about 3 a.m. Saturday to the 300 block of Caroline Acres Road, where they spoke with a 79-year-old woman, who told authorities that the husband accidentally shot her.

Deputies later found a 77-year-old man inside the home, according to a news release. He died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff’s office said.

The woman was transported to a local hospital and later released for a severe laceration to her nose, according to authorities.

A weapon was taken from the scene, and investigators were able to determine that a bullet from the man's gunshot wound matched the bullet that grazed the woman's nose, the sheriff's office said.

The Garland County sheriff’s office did not immediately return a call Monday evening for more information.
