COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Southern Arkansas 3-7, Harding 2-0

Maddie Dow hit two home runs Sunday to lead Southern Arkansas to a pair of victories over Harding and gave the Lady Muleriders the Great American Conference championship. Dow forced an extra game between the two teams with her game-winning two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh inning. This came after Harding had taken a 2-1 lead on Kimmy Hendricks’ two-run home run in the top of the seventh.

Dow then gave Southern Arkansas (46-9) all the runs it needed when she belted a three-run shot in the first inning. It was all the support Peyton Jenkins (2-1) needed as she threw a four-hitter with five strikeouts in a 90-itch effort.

Southern Arkansas, which entered the tournament ranked No. 18 nationally among NCAA Division II schools, also earned an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. That 64-team field will be announced at 9 a.m. today.

Arkansas Tech (46-9), which was ranked eighth nationally before going 2-2 in the tournament, will earn an at-large berth and could possibly be one of eight regional hosts.
