JONESBORO — Two Jonesboro police sergeants have been suspended without pay for their roles in a high-profile protest by several officers unhappy with their salary and benefits.
The Jonesboro Sun reports that sergeants Trey Dupuy and John Porbeck won't be working their next three scheduled shifts.
The protest involved officers parking their take-home patrol vehicles at Municipal Center and leaving an unsigned letter to the mayor in his reserved space to outline complaints about salaries and benefits.
One of the sergeants participated in the protest by parking his car at Municipal Center. The other knew about it in advance, but didn't stop it.
Chief Rick Elliott says the 23 officers who left their cars at Municipal Center no longer have take-home privileges, but can regain that privilege through a written request.
