Prosecutor says Arkansas fire chief won't be charged in sexual assault case

CONWAY -- Mayflower Fire Chief Carl Rossini will not be charged in connection with a sexual assault allegation, a prosecutor said Monday.

"Upon receipt and review of the law enforcement investigative file and interview of witnesses in the matter, there simply wasn't sufficient evidence to warrant the filing of criminal charges," Prosecuting Attorney Cody Hiland said in a statement.

The Mayflower Police Department, which initiated the investigation, said it had turned over its findings to the Faulkner County sheriff's office to avoid a conflict of interest.

The Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division helped with the inquiry.

Rossini was named fire chief in 2006 by Mayflower Mayor Randy Holland. Rossini also is the town's code enforcement officer.
